Cyclist Hit by Car Walks Away Unharmed

It was a great relief yesterday when police and firetrucks arrived to find that a collision between a cyclist and a car dinged the bike, but missed the rider.

The accident created quite the hubbub on the corner of 39th Street and 4th Ave a little after 5pm. Neighborhood teens and churchgoers gathered on the southwest corner to as paramedics and police spoke with the young man on the bike, who was unhurt.

Witnesses said that he had slowed at the corner, but then rolled into the street against the walk light. The Honda Element came east up 39th street on a green light and clipped the bicycle’s front wheel. The rider was not wearing a helmet at the time.

Unable to contact a parent, paramedics took the rider to the hospital. They expected to release him as soon as a parent or guardian arrived to take him home.
