Grandfather Killed in Hit and Run on Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park

A 75-year-old grandfather of two was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver as he crossed Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park, the Daily News reported.

The driver of a dark Chevy Suburban hit Hugo Jansen* at 11:30pm in a crosswalk at Fourth Avenue and 46th Street, then sped away. The victim was left injured and bleeding on Fourth Avenue. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Lutheran Medical Center.

Jansen, a retired fabric store worker and grandfather of two, emigrated from Peru 20 years ago, his daughter Denise told the Post. “He was a good grandfather,” she said. He was also an active member of St. Michael’s Church.

Jansen had crossed the six-lane road against the light, cabbie Anthony Dilone told the Daily News. Dilone said he witnessed the hit-and-run.

“I’m [mad] because that’s something you don’t do,” he said. “That’s against everyone’s morals.”

Police are looking for the driver of the dark SUV, 1010 WINS reported.

ABC News posted a recent report, along with a picture of Jansen.
